[howto] Excel 2 Latex

excel2Latex

It's difficult to create tables in LaTeX, especially if some columns are
calculated. Excel2LaTeX allows you to transform the current selection from
Excel to Latex. Most of the formating will be kept (bold, italic, border
lines, multicolumn cells, etc.). The LaTeX code can be copied to the
clipboard or saved as a LaTeX file, which then can be included in an
existing LaTeX document using the \input command.

[howto] JabRef reference manager for BibTex

JabRef is an open source bibliography reference manager. The native file format used by JabRef is BibTeX, the standard LaTeX bibliography format. JabRef runs on the Java VM (version 1.5 or newer), and should work equally well on Windows, Linux and Mac OS X.

Math -MV Cool

This MV is created by a Thai Scholar.
Very good job.

The song named Mandelbrot set by Jonathan Coulton.

[From wiki]
The Mandelbrot set is a set of points in the complex plane that forms a fractal. Mathematically, the Mandelbrot set can be defined as the set of complex c-values for which the orbit of 0 under iteration of the complex quadratic polynomial x2 + c remains bounded.

Lyric
Pathological monsters! cried the terrified mathematician
Every one of them is a splinter in my eye
I hate the Peano Space and the Koch Curve
I fear the Cantor Ternary Set And the Sierpinski Gasket makes me want to cry
And a million miles away a butterfly flapped its wings
On a cold November day a man named Benoit Mandelbrot was born

His disdain for pure mathematics and his unique geometrical insights
Left him well equipped to face those demons down
He saw that infinite complexity could be described by simple rules
He used his giant brain to turn the game around
And he looked below the storm and saw a vision in his head
A bulbous pointy form
He picked his pencil up and he wrote his secret down

Take a point called Z in the complex plane
Let Z1 be Z squared plus C
And Z2 is Z1 squared plus C
And Z3 is Z2 squared plus C and so on
If the series of Z's should always stay
Close to Z and never trend away
That point is in the Mandelbrot Set

Mandelbrot Set you're a Rorschach Test on fire
You're a day-glo pterodactyl
You're a heart-shaped box of springs and wire
You're one badass fucking fractal
And you're just in time to save the day
Sweeping all our fears away
You can change the world in a tiny way

Mandelbrot's in heaven, at least he will be when he's dead
Right now he's still alive and teaching math at Yale
He gave us order out of chaos, he gave us hope where there was none
And his geometry succeeds where others fail
If you ever lose your way, a butterfly will flap its wings
From a million miles away, a little miracle will come to take you home

Just take a point called Z in the complex plane
Let Z1 be Z squared plus C
And Z2 is Z1 squared plus C
And Z3 is Z2 squared plus C and so on
If the series of Z's should always stay
Close to Z and never trend away
That point is in the Mandelbrot Set
Mandelbrot Set you're a Rorschach Test on fire
You're a day-glo pterodactyl
You're a heart-shaped box of springs and wire
You're one badass fucking fractal
And you're just in time to save the day
Sweeping all our fears away
You can change the world in a tiny way
And you're just in time to save the day
Sweeping all our fears away
You can change the world in a tiny way
Go on change the world in a tiny way
Come on change the world in a tiny way

[howto] Excel: How to group rows

I had a big problem to calculate on the groups of rows in excel file.
For long time, I did do it manually. Many times, I wrote my own specific program to take care of this problem.

That was a stupid way.

Excel2003, Ecel20007 can group the rows for you.

[10/02/07] Reboot Your Brain with a Caffeine Nap

Didn't get enough sleep last night? Grab a quick midday nap just after a cup of coffee. From Wired's How To wiki:

Scientists say that a successful midday nap depends on two things: timing and (no kidding) caffeine consumption. Experiments performed at Loughborough University in the UK showed that the sleep-deprived need only a cup of coffee and 15 minutes of shut-eye to feel amazingly refreshed.

Distributed Systems: Introduction

Distributed Systems Principles and Paradigm
by Andrew S. Tanenbaum

Introduction:

From a machine that cost 10 million dollars and executed 1 instruction per second,
we have come to machines that cost 1000 dollars and are able to execute 1 billion instructions per second, a price/performance gain of 10^13.

If cars had improve at this rate in the same time period, a Rolls Royce would now cost 1 dollar and get a billion miles per gallon.

(Unfortunately, it would probably also have a 200-page manual telling hot to open the door.)

hyphenate document

Do any of the following:

Automatically hyphenate all of a document

On the Tools menu, point to Language, and then click Hyphenation.
Select the Automatically hyphenate document check box.
In the Hyphenation zone box, enter the amount of space to leave between the end of the last word in a line and the right margin.
To reduce the number of hyphens, make the hyphenation zone wider. To reduce the raggedness of the right margin, make the hyphenation zone narrower.

In the Limit consecutive hyphens to box, enter the number of consecutive lines that can be hyphenated.
